I like the snowflake design of the strainer holes. I want to try to make that in mine.

This is a great design. Very artistic and unique. I wish I had more time to make something like that.

This is a really cute aquatic design. It would have gone well with the whole fish/underwater theme I had on previous projects.

Love this idea! No handle, just the shape of the flower props up the design. This would have been another great idea for an tea strainer.

I like the way this infuser is put together with jump rings. I used jump rings in my necklace piece and it was a lot less time consuming and made the design more flexible.

Ok so my boyfriend is Jewish and I've decided to make a menorah instead of the Christmas Tree. We share holidays and I celebrate both Christian holidays and Jewish holidays. This would be a nice gift and a good gesture that to him that I am supportive of his religious preferences.

My apartment is a little bare and, well, I want to add some decoration. I know Christmas is a ways away, but I'm thinking I want to make something for the holiday. All these trees are constructed differently. I believe I can come up with a new design that takes into account the good qualities of each.

The hanging characteristic of this piece is very nice. It really caters to the curve of the neck. I also like the chain material. Adornment sells it, I might look into buying it.

The different layers of this piece really interests me. I like how the chain actually becomes part of the design instead of just what holds everything together. I wonder what metal was used. I think for my necklace piece I will experiment with patins.

I've noticed that there is generally a uniting factor in these pieces: circles/squares. The similar pieces are not exactly the same but close enough to make harmony within the piece. I plan on achieving the same sense of harmony in my piece

History of charm bracelets

The history of charm bracelets goes back to ancient times when charms were worn to please the gods, to ward off evil spirits, or to gain entry into the afterlife.

During the middle ages, charms were worn by knights to signify rank and family origin. Queen Victoria is responsible for giving charms the decorative and stylish purpose they bear today. Her bracelets showed the world that a charm bracelet could be worn for fashion rather than superstition.

At the end of the Second World War, soldiers returned from foreign lands with charms for their wives and sweethearts at home. This trend carried into the 1950s when charm bracelets became the number one gift request for girls and women, on which they wore charms to represent important milestones in their lives. Since the 1950s, as fashions have evolved, the charm bracelet has risen and fallen in popularity, but in the past decade, charms have become popular once again.

Sunfest Inspirations

I went to Sunfest in OC over the weekend and saw a lot of artwork. These pieces reminded me of the project we are working on now. However, they were made of wood, but the process was still the same, with the exception of painting them black as opposed to burning copper.

So I was in the bathroom and I noticed that my shower curtain was actually a picture of all this bamboo in a pretty ivory color. I like the design. Maybe it will help me decide what I'm going to do for project 3, or at least give me a good visual.

"Thoughtful designs with innovative twists"

I walked into this store and was immediately drawn to look at everything in the store. I HIGHLY recommend that everyone checks this site out. The pieces that are made to force you to look outside of the box, which as artists, we strive to do. By making designs that breach the boundaries of what is familiar and in some way already been done, our pieces lack originality and in most cases don't attract attention. I strive to accomplish far more then a glance, I want to stop a person in their tracks and say "wow, I want that," just like I did when I walked into the Pylones store.

I had mentioned puzzle pieces in a previous post and seeing these chairs outside of the Cooper-Hewitt museum made me want to buy them. I love seeing something that is out of the ordinary.

I also loves the bamboo chair from Ezri Tarazi. It gives me more ideas for the back of the necklace for my project 2.

These earrings and bowls really are interesting to me. I love how sleek both look from the choice of material. The fact that he is making a new subject that is natural (a stingray or sea shell or flower) out of a natural material that comes from something that does not coincide with it interests me. I'm leaning more on using ivory veneer or bamboo for project 2.

Love this piece! It reminds me of some of the pieces from Janet's demo. Maybe I could make something like a puzzle? I also like the colors. I want to use bamboo, hardboard green, or walnut veneer, so of course that plays into what I'm designing.

Fall Leaves

My mom is a science teacher so I think I'm going to go natural on this project. Her favorite season is fall because that is when I was born. I found a beautifully shaped leaf this morning and kept it. I want to draw it in illustrator and use it as a hanging piece for the back of the necklace. I also like the finish on this piece. I want to find out how to really bring out the fall orange, red, and golden colors in the metal.

Back of the Neck
"A quick poll of guys I know also revealed this predilection. The back of the neck, where the spine ends, and disappears behind fragrant hair. Just seeing it, I have to say, makes you feel like you've achieved a kind of intimacy."

A lot of people neglect the importance of how the back of the necklace looks. I want the back of the necklace to draw attention to the neck, which apparently is a very sensual spot.

This is one of the illustrations I made on my free time over the summer. I think this would be a good idea for a lamp. When the light shines through it, the sea scene will show up on the wall. Of course I would have to find a way to simplify the jelly fish tentacles, but it could work.

Type inspired lamp

I love the type aspect to this lamp. I have a really good idea with personal words of mine, instead of numbers. However, I am worried about time. This looks like it may take too long for this assignment. Maybe I could make a candle holder instead with one side instead of four?

Butterfly Pop-out Lamp

This is such a fun looking lamp. The pop-out adds drama. The light is coming from below. I may consider doing something like this but along the lines of swimming sea animals and fish, instead of flying butterflies.
